Dear Colleagues.
We have a special occasion and privilege to organize the 27th EPOS meeting in Warsaw, Poland. Poland is a country with more than one thousand years of vivid history and European identification, localized between eastern and western powers and, from the end of the 18th till the year 1918 permanently striving for freedom and independence. Now, it is an entirely independent country, liberated from communist domination (1989), a member of UE and in the course of rapid economic changes. Here the Solidarity was born, not only as the name of a trade union which has changed the political system but also as an idea and a great social movement which may be attractive for the contemporary world. Poland has also been a part of orthopaedic tradition, mainly associated with the names of Wiktor Dega from Poznan and Adam Gruca from Warsaw.
The capital city of Warsaw, with its central location, is an ideal place for exploring the country. The city, present in the historical memory of the Polish people because of the heroic Warsaw Uprising in 1944, in which it was completely destroyed, is today a dynamic cultural and business centre, linking the Eastern and the Western Europe. It is also a place which can be a starting point for visits to admire the natural beauty of sandy beaches on the Baltic Sea as well Mazurian lakes and Tatra mountains.
We have planned an enjoyable social programme and some wonderful tours, allowing you and your partners and families to sample a taste of what Warsaw, Krakow and Gdansk have to offer.
Our scientific programme starts with one day pre-meeting course “Dega’s osteotomy on the iliac bone” and will be continued by main topic of the meeting: “Hip deformity in adolescence” as well free papers and poster sessions. With the help of our participants, speakers and internationally recognised chairpersons, we hope to stimulate much interesting, educational, scientific and even controversial debate among our colleagues throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
We welcome you to Warsaw and we look forward to an excellent congress.
On behalf of the Organising Committee
Professor Marek Napiontek
